Nubsy & Bullfrog in the recording studio with Bud Tingwell
Zia Grace is in the process of putting together a fund-raising audio disc that will benefit children with learning disabilities and vision impairment. The adventure started with a fun filled day in the recording studio with an Australian radio and screen legend.
Nubsy and Bullfrog were on summer holidays and had made the long car-trip over to Melbourne with Mum and Dad McNoodle. We could not contain our excitement when they arrived, so we poured our energy into a lounge room rock concert complete with oversized sunglasses, crazy costumes, wild wigs and electrifying air guitars. After a belly full of laughs, we went to bed and woke up to the hottest day I can ever remember. It was New Year's Eve and we were about to take shelter in a recording studio with one of Australia's most legendary veteran actors, Charles "Bud" Tingwell.
We collected Bud in air-conditioned comfort (Liza's brand new energy-efficient car) and headed for the state-of-the-art studio in Melbourne's outer suburbs. We were mesmerised by Bud's account of his time as a fighter pilot during the war - his rich velvety voice transported me to a time and place miles away... then before I knew it, it was time to open the oven door - oops, pardon - I mean the car door and make a dash for the studio.
We recorded several versions of Nubsy McNoodle Wanted A Poodle in between book signings and have a photographic memento of the occasion, which you can check out in our Gallery (hyperlink to gallery pics). You can hear a sample of the recording and find out how the story of Nubsy McNoodle Wanted A Poodle came to be. Simply go to The Story Behind The Story to find out more.
The audio disc is currently in production and we'll let you know as soon as it is available.
Thanks for checking out the news and have a Happy Zia Day!
